The goal of the Education Working Group is to source schools with the best practices, connect community engagement and ensure that no Syrian family is left behind in their education. From adult advanced learning to basic English language education for children, the gaps exposed are being filled with our community partners and through the discovery of available resources.
The VIRRT is still addressing the following needs:
- Settlement Workers In Schools (SWIS) are only found in 4 districts on the island. More workers are needed.
- More than 50% of Syrian newcomers are children under the age of 18. Their Canadian peers would benefit from appropriate cultural training and awareness. Resources are continuing to be researched.
