"We Speak Translate" Project Launch & Technology Inclusion Event

  • Delta Ocean Pointe Hotel 100 Harbour Rd. Victoria, BC V9A 0G1 Canada (map)

Google Translate and the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria (ICA) have partnered to launch this first of its kind initiative utilizing the Google Translate App for your organization to improve refugee resettlement and new immigrant inclusion!

"We Speak Translate" app and project provides community stakeholders, businesses, agencies, institutions training in the Google Translate App. Upon completion of the training, participants will receive an exclusive "We Speak Translate" decal to place on your organization's front door or window. This decal is a visible symbol of inclusion and demonstrates your organizations' commitment to promoting diversity and communication across language barriers. The Google Translate App will help your organization establish a common platform for communication with newcomers while they develop their English language skills.

CPN members will be the first in the region to receive this innovative "We Speak Translate" App and training from Google Translate representative and presenter, Roque Silva.

In addition, organizations will be introduced to a host of other technology and communication tools that support organizations working with refugees and immigrants. These tools include:

  • Online Community Mapping Resources for Newcomers - University of Victoria

  • Digital Storytelling & Social Simulation as a Tool to Learn About Newcomers - University of Victoria

  • We Speak Translate Training - Google

  • Google Translate for websites - Google

Please note: participants are asked to bring a smart phone or tablet to fully engage in the training.

Refreshments and snacks will be provided.

A CPN members information table will be set up - please bring information flyers or posters to display and share.

This is a no-cost event. Feel free to invite a colleague or friend.
